Admissions Process

Steps for Admission:

  1. Submit a completed application for admissions and a non-refundable $20 application fee. (Practical Nursing and Surgical Technology applications are ONLY accepted through March 31st.)

  2. Schedule to take the COMPASS test.  The COMPASS test is a placement exam over math, English and reading.  There is a $15.00 testing fee.  (The COMPASS test will be waived if you have an ACT composite score of an 18 or better, or an SAT combine score of an 860 or better, and it is current within the last five years, or have completed 35 or more post-secondary credits with a 2.5 cumulative GPA or better.)

  3. Request an official High School transcript or GED scores sent to the admissions office.  (Additionally, an official transcript must be submitted if you have attended other post-secondary institutions or universities.)

  4. Submit a certification from a licensed physical physician that you have received or are in the process of receiving the required two doses of immunization against measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR). (This is required for all on campus students.)

  5. Once you receive your acceptance letter, enclosed will be a green confirmation form that must be completed and returned within 10 days with a $35.00 non-refundable registration fee.  This will confirm and hold your spot in the program.

Commonly asked questions:

When can I start?
Western Dakota Tech programs have a limited number enrollment.  Most programs start in the Fall semester.  An Admissions Specialist can tell you when each program accepts new students.

How will I know when I am accepted?
Once you have completed all of the admissions steps, the Admissions Coordinator will send you a letter of acceptance, with a confirmation form.  You then have ten (10) days to complete the confirmation form and return it with your registration fee to hold your spot in the program.  A spot in the program cannot be guaranteed unless you have paid your registration fee.

Do programs fill up?
Each of the career programs offered at Western Dakota Tech have a limited number enrollment.  The intent of this policy is to further ensure efficiency in class scheduling, maintaining appropriate student to teacher rations, and promoting adequate labor market opportunity upon program completion.

As a program reaches the predetermined capacity, a waiting list is established and applicants are notified of their position on the list.  In the event an accepted or confirmed applicant is unable to fulfill their commitment for program entry, the next individual on the waiting list is offered formal acceptance.

Since most decisions in the admissions process are based on when an applicant completes required steps, early application is recommended.

REMEMBER…

Admissions and Financial Aid are two separate processes and each requires a different application!

To apply for Federal Financial Aid, the applicant must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA can be completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. For more information please contact the Financial Aid office at 1-800-544-8765.

Please let us know if you have any questions.  We look forward to helping you meet your educational goals.
