Dual Enrollment
Are you interested in receiving FREE* college tuition? Would you like to complete your college degree faster and earn high school credit at the same time? If so, Western Dakota Tech has an excellent opportunity for you to take advantage of. Current High School Juniors and Seniors within the Rapid City Area School District are able to take two classes per semester at WDT and receive dual credit for FREE*.
Students that are interested in taking Automotive Technology or Welding classes need to register through the Technical High School. Please contact Kathy Calhoun at 605-394-4028.
If you are not part of the Rapid City Area School District, there are options available for you as well. Please contact the Admissions Office at 605-718-2565 to learn more about earning dual credit. You have the option to take classes online, day or night. What a great way to jumpstart you career.
Dual Enrollment Admissions Steps:
Contact your High School Counselor FIRST for approval to take Dual Enrollment classes. You will need to get the College Coursework Application form from your high school before you can apply to Western Dakota Tech.
Dual Enrollment students are required to complete the following Admissions steps at Western Dakota Tech:
- Submit your completed Dual Enrollment Application with the non-refundable $20.00 application fee and $15.00 COMPASS test fee. Click HERE to download the Dual Enrollment Application.
- Submit your completed College Coursework Application.
- Submit an official copy of the high school transcript.
- Schedule to take the COMPASS exam.
- Submit a copy of your Immunization Records, verifying you have two doses against measles, rubella and mumps (MMR).
- Submit ACT Score (COMPASS may be waived if ACT composite score is 18 or higher). Students registering for Composition and/or College Algebra may be required to take the COMPASS for placement purposes.
Under an agreement with the Rapid City Area Schools, students in grades eleven and twelve may enroll in classes at Western Dakota Tech, on a space available basis, and earn both high school and WDT credit. There is no tuition cost for the student to enroll in Dual Enrollment classes at WDT. Students may enroll in two Dual Enrollment courses each semester. Dual Enrolled Students who receive a failing grade in any WDT course are no longer eligible to participate in the Dual Enrollment program at WDT.
Students pursuing a full-time program at Western Dakota Tech within two years after completing their high school requirements will not incur any additional application fees or be required to complete another pre-test. Additional testing and application steps are required for entry into the Practical Nursing, Surgical Technology, Phlebotomy/Laboratory Assistant and Law Enforcement programs.
Students are expected to know the contents of the Student Handbook publication and adhere to all policies and procedures. The same academic and student conduct policies apply to Dual Enrollment students. Dual Enrollment students are expected to attend classes based on the Western Dakota Tech Academic Calendar.
