Information about the COMPASS test
The COMPASS test is a computerized placement exam over math, English and reading. The COMPASS test is required for all new students to take, and it must completed before your admissions file will be reviewed for acceptance. The COMPASS test determines if the student will need to take any remedial coursework at Western Dakota Tech. There is a $15.00 testing fee to take the COMPASS.
The COMPASS test can be waived if you meet any of the following criteria:
Have an ACT composite score of an 18 or higher within the last five years.
Have an SAT composite score of an 860 or higher within the last five years.
Have completed 35 or more post-secondary credits with a 2.5 or higher cumulative GPA.
The COMPASS test is not timed. On average, the test takes about an hour and a half to complete. Your testing results will print out immediately and an Admissions Specialist will review your results with you.

Information about the Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET-V)
The HOBET-V is a computerized test and is a proven diagnostic instrument that assists the Surgical Technology program to evaluate academic, test taking, and social skills of new applicants to their program. Based upon the profile generated with this test, the Surgical Technology program can more objectively screen applicants for admissions. It also assists WDT in providing information that will help the instructors meet your individual needs as a student while attend the program. There is a $30.00 testing fee to take the HOBET-V.

Information about the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
The TEAS is a computerized test and is a proven diagnostic instrument that assists the Practical Nursing program to evaluate academic, test taking, and social skills of new applicants to their program. Based upon the profile generated with this test, the Practical Nursing program can more objectively screen applicants for admissions. It also assists WDT in providing information that will help the instructors meet your individual needs as a student while attend the program. There is a $40.00 testing fee to take the TEAS.
