Welcome to the Tech Prep

Articulation Page!

What is Articulation?

For the graduating high school student (and for some adult students at learning centers) articulated credit is a way to get a head-start on postsecondary training by earning credit toward a technical institute diploma or degree while still in high school.   A current articulation agreement with WDTI needs to be on file for that student’s school.  All courses listed on that articulation agreement are potentially  available to the student as articulated credit.

 FACTS ABOUT ARTICULATION

1.                  The student can receive full articulated credit at WDTI for certain courses taken in high school. For full articulation, the course(s) must be equal in content to the course taught at WDTI.  The student will receive full course credit toward graduation at WDTI does not pay tuition or fees for the articulated course(s).

2.                  The student can receive partial articulation/transfer credit for courses specified partial credit.  For courses where partial credit is awarded, the student must take the actual course at WDTI;  however, the student will receive a one (1) or two (2) credit scholarship toward the cost of the course.

3.                  To receive full or partial articulation/transfer credit, the student entering WDTI will have at least a B (3.0) average grade in the applicable course(s).

4.                  Articulation agreements are a portion of the nationwide Tech Prep Initiative and are administered locally by Tech Prep Coordinators.

5.                  Courses articulation through any South Dakota technical institute will be honored by the other institutes should the student choose to enroll at another institute.

State Guidelines for Technical Institute Articulation Agreements

Endorsed by the South Dakota Board of Education 1998

1.    All students enrolled under the articulation agreement shall meet the admissions standards as established by the postsecondary institute for that particular program.

2.    To receive articulated credit, the student must have completed the high school course within the last three (3) years.

3.    For a student to articulate courses after the three-year time limit, an assessment of skill mastery will be required.

4.    A minimum of "B" average (3.0) in the course(s) to be articulated is required.

5.    No grade will be assigned for articulated credit. These courses will not be counted in determining postsecondary grade point average.

6.    The credits articulated will count toward the total number needed for graduation from the program.

7.    Tuition is not charged for the articulated credit(s).

8.    Articulation agreements will be reviewed on an annual basis as well as during the program review cycle at the postsecondary level.

9.    Articulated courses will be honored by all postsecondary institutes for those course(s) that have common numbers and titles.

10.  All articulation agreements between secondary schools and the technical institutes reflect only the transferability of credit between these agencies and not necessarily with state universities.

11.  Transferable general education courses[1] must meet CLEP, dual credit or advanced placement requirements in order to be articulated to the technical institutes.

[1]Transferable general education courses are courses that transfer from the technical institute education system to the state university system.

NOTE:  This agreement applies to 2006 and 2007 graduates only.

Ψ  The articulated course list is subject to change before and during the 2007-2008 school year.  Western Dakota Tech curriculum changes are made in the spring before they are implemented (as in course changes made in Spring 2007 affecting courses in the Fall 2007 semester), and articulation agreements must be revised to match.  All graduates are encouraged to consider these as probable articulation agreements.

Ψ  Full credit is given for certain courses taken in high school. Each course must be equal in content to the course taught at WDT.  Students receiving full articulated credit do not pay tuition for or take the course at WDT.

Ψ  Partial credit is granted for courses specified partial credit.  Students receiving partial credit must attend the course at WDT, but will pay for only the unarticulated credits.

Ψ  To receive full or partial course credit, you must have at least a B (3.0) average grade in the applicable course(s).
