Fire Science - Online Program

This program is designed for current, active firefighters looking to advance in their careers. Many departments require a degree before promotions are possible. This program is designed to build on your firefighting experience and give you the courses and knowledge you need to succeed.

WDT will evaluate your firefighting experience and grant credit that can be applied toward your degree. All other required courses will be completed online from the convenience of wherever you are.

Program Prerequisites

In order to enroll in the online Fire Science program, you must meet the following requirements:

• South Dakota Firefighter certification
• EMT or First Responder certification
• Basic Wildland Training-S-130/190 equivalent, ICS 100, 200, and 700. (Other fire-related training would qualify for either partial or full credit for other Fire Science requirements.)
• Five years active experience, volunteer or paid
