Construction Technology

Construction Technology is a two-semester diploma program. As a student enrolled our program, you will learn the skills and have the experiences you need to set yourself apart from the crowd when you graduate and begin your career.

Our program is hands-on. There is some time in the classroom, but you will spend most of your day learning by doing. You will build sheds, special projects, and houses. And I’m not talking about dollhouses, here. You and a team of students will build real houses on site or on campus. Once they’re built, the houses are sold just like any other. There’s no better way to learn.

Job opportunities for graduates skilled in construction are expected to remain excellent. The need for skilled workers is expected to grow as construction activity increases in response to demand for new housing, office and retail space, and other construction. In the Rapid City region, there are more job opportunities than available workers!

Recent WDT graduates are working for Michels Construction, Rathert Construction, Shorber Builders, and other companies. If you want to advance in your career, skilled workers usually have greater opportunities than most other construction workers to become general construction supervisors because they are exposed to the entire construction process. You could advance to supervisor or general construction supervisor positions. Others become independent contractors.
