WDT is "Going Green"

Green Campus Mission
Western Dakota Tech Green Campus Committee is committed to supporting and sustaining the development of an environmentally responsible student body, faculty, staff, and campus.

Green Campus Vision Statement:
As an educational institution, we have the opportunity to be a leader in promoting recycling and the sustainable use of resources.  Our Green Campus Committee strives to learn about, and understand, sustainable environmental practices, making their benefits apparent to students, faculty, staff, and our community.  We seek to encourage the study of environmental issues in courses throughout the curriculum and graduate responsible global citizens prepared to work in the new and evolving sustainable energy market.

Recycling Hints

Drag the bag. Reduce the number of plastic bags you use. Recycle them. Use reusable bags when shopping.

Fact:  the average number of plastic bags an individual uses per year - 500! Try to reduce that by half.

If every household in the US replaced just one box of 48oz petroleum based powder laundry detergent with a vegetable based one, we save 96,000 barrels of oil. This is enough to heat 5,500 homes a year!

For every 10 gallons of gas you put in your car, 6 come from overseas. Plastics are petroleum products. Recycling plastic = saving petroleum= less dependency on foreign oil

Start with just one purchase-choose sustainable, environmentally friendly coffee, jeans, soap, light bulbs, chocolate.

Lug the jug. Start using a reusable water bottle. Lug the mug. Start using a reusable coffee mug

Buy and use CFL bulbs. Look for the energy star label. Don’t fall for the mercury hazard myth. They contain less mercury than a watch battery and off set the mercury released in energy production to light a typical bulb.
