Medical coding and billing professionals play an important part in the healthcare system since all medical treatments, tests, and procedures must be coded, and professionals in this field have a promising career outlook.

The 2008-2009 edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook published by the U.S. Department of Labor estimates:
