Computer-Aided Drafting is a hands-on program, and you will spend most of your day learning by doing. You will prepare drawings under the guidance of instructors who are true experts and will graduate with the abilities and knowledge that set you apart from the crowd.
The program will give you the skills and knowledge necessary so you can produce accurate technical drawings using industry standard CAD systems. You will be prepared for entry-level positions in the architectural, civil, and mechanical CAD fields.
The program offers two options:
- The Associate of Applied Science option is best for students with some or no industry experience.
- The diploma program is designed for students who already have significant experience. Learn more about the diploma option.
Architectural drafters assist architects by preparing technical plans and details showing the dimensions, construction materials, and processes used for residential and commercial building projects.
Mechanical drafters prepare detail and assembly drawings of a wide variety of machinery and mechanical devices, indicating dimensions, fastening methods, and other requirements.
Civil drafters create drawings that detail the construction related to land, roads, bridges, and other infrastructure.
The Computer-Aided Drafting Technician program at WDT will provide you with a solid base of knowledge in all three of these fields and allows you to emphasize a particular field during your final semester.
Our recent graduates are now employed by Caterpillar Black Hills Engineering Design Center, 4Front Design, Britton Engineering and Land Surveying, Infinity Design Builders, Spirit Air, TMI, Valmont Industries, Thad Olson Construction, All Metal Manufacturing, Dakota Arms, Western Mine Service, and other businesses.
