South Dakota’s Technical Institutes are aggressively focused on fulfilling a critical demand for qualified workers in select industries in the state. The Critical Needs Workforce Scholarship rewards students who enroll in a field that’s experiencing a shortage of qualified, skilled employees. Students are eligible to receive up to a $5,000 Critical Needs Workforce Scholarship, an initiative funded by the South Dakota Governor’s Office and the South Dakota legislature in 2014.
To be eligible for the scholarship, students must apply for admission to one of the Critical Needs Workforce Scholarship programs and meet admission requirements. Students may also apply for the Critical Needs Workforce Scholarship at the same time with the scholarship application.
If the student is a Critical Needs Workforce Scholarship recipient, they must maintain a 2.0 GPA and must agree to stay in South Dakota and work in a critical needs area for three years following graduation from Western Dakota Tech. If the contract is broken, the recipient is required to pay the scholarship back. The scholarship will be awarded beginning fall of 2014.
