Western Dakota Tech Policy Number: 3014  


I.  Purpose

Western Dakota Tech (WDT) is committed to offering academic courses that meet student-learning outcomes in a safe and productive educational environment.

II.  General Statement of Policy

A.  Classes offered by WDT will have enrollment caps as follows:

  • Online Classes (classes taught in an online environment only) will have an enrollment cap of 24 students.
  • On-campus Classes (classes taught in the traditional classroom/shop/lab or as a blended/hybrid course) will have an enrollment cap of 32 students.
  • If a program has enrollment caps set by an accrediting agency which WDT is required to honor in order to meet accreditation standards, the accrediting agency’s enrollment caps will be followed. 
  • Shops/labs that have equipment for less than 32 students will have enrollment caps based on available equipment. The Vice President for Teaching and Learning and Program Director will determine maximum capacity of a shop/lab if it cannot accommodate 32 students.

WDT maintains the authority to adjust enrollment caps as needed and appropriate. 

This policy does not apply to classes through the South Dakota Board of Regents taught by faculty paid through a source other than WDT.

B.  It shall be a violation of this policy if the assigned enrollment caps are not honored.
