Potential CPR Instructor Information

Western Dakota Technical College welcomes individuals wishing to become BLS and/or HeartSaver instructors. If you are interested in becoming an instructor, please fill out this form. Potential trainers must:

• Sign the WDTC Training Center affiliation agreement
• Understand financial and other requirements involved in being an American Heart Association trainer
• Successfully complete the American Heart Association Instructor Essentials online training
• Attend and successfully complete a WDTC Instructor Training course and complete AHA instructor training requirements (covered in class)
• Attend required course observations and accommodate course monitoring by WDTC Lead Instructors

The next WDTC Instructor Training Course will be at Western Dakota Technical College on March 27 from 8:00am-5:00pm. The morning classroom session will go over specifics of AHA CPR training, our training center processes and expectations, required training equipment, and other training-specific topics. During the afternoon session you will observe a WDTC BLS class. During the class, our lead instructors will work with you to debrief what you are seeing and to reiterate key points of teaching a class.

The cost of the Instructor Training Course is $225. Payment is due upon registration.

Potential Participants Information

CPR and First Aid classes are open to the public. Currently, we offer two course options:

BLS (Basic Life Support) is the CPR course designated for healthcare providers. It is a 4-hour course that covers CPR (adult, infant, and child) and AED. Though it has the "for healthcare providers" designation, anyone can take BLS. BLS is recommended or may be required for WDTC students that are enrolled in a Healthcare program.

HeartSaver is a First Aid/CPR/AED 6-hour course is designed for a more general audience. HeartSaver is required for WDTC students in the Environmental Engineering Tech and the Electrical Trades programs.

Class Cost

• BLS for Healthcare Providers - $99 Regular*
• HeartSaver CPR, AED & First Aid - $109 Regular*
• BLS recertification class - $70 Regular* (price includes training, 2025 BLS book and eCard)

*The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all AHA courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the AHA.

If you cannot attend your scheduled course, please inform the Corporate Education Center as soon as possible by email (corped@wdt.edu) or phone (605-718-2410). Registration may be moved to a future class with availability, or a full refund may be offered for individuals giving at least 72 hours' notice or with an extenuating circumstance for a last-minute cancellation (sickness, death in the family, etc.). This is available one time per student. The full fee will be charged for all further registrations with no refund option.

You will need to bring your current AHA eCard to show you are up for renewal. Cannot be expired more than 30 days.

Professional Licensure and Certification

Professional licensure and certification requirements often vary from state to state. WDTC will not initially enroll students in an academic program leading to professional licensure or certification unless the College has confirmed the program meets all educational requirements of the state where the student is located, per WDTC’s Student Location policy, or intends to work after graduation.
