Dental Classes

Western Dakota Technical Colleges’ Corporate Education Center offers continuing education classes for dental professionals. These courses have been approved by the South Dakota State Board of Dentistry.

NEW FOR FALL 2025 - ONLINE CLASS OPTION
Registered participants will be given access to the on-line classroom on or near the first day of the month. They will be required to come to campus to complete the written test. The clinical instruction (lab) day will also be on campus. Participants from out of town will be given the option to take the written test the morning of the lab day, with the understanding that if they do not pass the written test, they will not be able to participate in the lab instruction that day. Participants who do not pass the written test on the testing day will have the option to re-test on the morning of the lab day for a fee of $25. If they fail a second time they will have to re-take the course with an additional payment.

This 16-hour course provides radiology classroom and clinical instruction as well as testing for dental assistants. Upon successful completion of the course students will be qualified to administer X-rays (pending submission of application forms, any registration and licensing fees, and approval required by the SD Board of Dentistry). Pre-registration and pre-payment required at the time of registration. Please call today, classes fill up fast! All classes in Rapid City unless otherwise noted.

Prerequisites:

  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • High School graduation or equivalent
  • Students must have a foundational understanding of tooth identification to include names and tooth numbers as well as basic dental anatomy
  • Minimum of 3 months' work experience as a Dental Assistant (DA) or Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) is required
Supplies Needed: Sensor holding devices used in your office including arms, rings, and bite tabs.

If you cannot attend your scheduled course, please inform the Corporate Education Center as soon as possible by email (corped@wdt.edu) or phone (605-718-2962). Registration may be moved to a future class with availability, or a full refund may be offered for individuals giving at least 72 hours' notice or with an extenuating circumstance for a last-minute cancellation (sickness, death in the family, etc). This is available one time per student. The full fee will be charged for all further registrations with no refund option.

Dental Radiology - Licensure and Certification

Professional licensure and certification requirements often vary from state to state. WDTC will not initially enroll students in an academic program leading to professional licensure or certification unless the College has confirmed the program meets all educational requirements of the state where the student is located, per WDTC’s Student Location policy, or intends to work after graduation.

Nitrous Oxide / Oxygen Sedation -
$525.00 per person

This 16-hour course includes instruction, demonstration, and practice on the administration of Nitrous Oxide / Oxygen Sedation used in industry. Upon successful completion of the course students will be qualified to administer nitrous oxide inhalation analgesia in a dental office setting. (pending submission of application forms, any registration and licensing fees, and approval required by the SD Board of Dentistry). Pre-registration and pre-payment required at the time of registration. Class size is limited.
