Western Dakota Tech hosted an Economic Impact Summit on Wednesday, Aug. 15, in the Western Dakota Tech Event Center.

The event highlighted the college's economic impact on the western South Dakota region and featured presentations from a variety of industry and campus partners, including the South Dakota Department of Labor and Regulation, Black Hills Knowledge Network, and the Rapid City Economic Development Partnership.

When considering the current and next generation of learners, it is important to recognize them as digital natives, ones grounded in the use of technology, rather than older generations who have eased into modern technology, commonly referred to as digital immigrants. As such, many younger adults have grown up around gaming systems and online gaming as well. The use and benefits of gaming can be realized in higher education as well.

Welcome Address by Ann Bolman, Ed.D., Western Dakota Tech President
Welcome back to campus, everyone! I am excited for the upcoming school year because we have hit some major Western Dakota Tech targets and have what feels like a fresh start for the future.

The first target we hit was to get back in solid standing with the Higher Learning Commission. Since I started here in 2015, we have been working hard to hit that target, and we did it — with no follow up reports and with no “met with concerns” indicated. In short, we had a perfect score on our efforts. Excellent work!

Area colleges work together to put students first

Black Hills State University and Western Dakota Tech recently conducted an Administrative Personnel Session aimed at helping students pursue higher education.

The session brought decision-makers from both campuses together to collaborate on course offerings, transfer agreements, and a dual admissions project.

“We all are working toward the same goal, helping students in western South Dakota and beyond pursue and complete their higher education goals,” said Ann Bolman, Ed.D., President of Western Dakota Tech. “Together, we can achieve more for our students.”
