50th Commencement Celebrations Set for 2018 Western Dakota Tech Graduates

Western Dakota Tech is hosting several events this week to honor graduates during the college's 50th Anniversary. The events will include a Practical Nursing Pinning Ceremony, an Eagle Feather Ceremony for Native American graduates, and Commencement. 

Events are as follows:

  • Practical Nursing Pinning Ceremony - 10 a.m., Friday, May 11, Western Dakota Tech Event Center.
  • Eagle Feather Ceremony - 5 p.m., Friday, May 11, Western Dakota Tech Event Center. Speakers to include:  Rev. Dr. Gerald Yellowhawk, Jayce DeCory, and Whitney Rencountre II.
  • Commencement- 10 a.m., Saturday, May 12, Barnett Arena, Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The commencement speaker is Tom Jackson, Jr., Ed.D., Black Hills State University President. The Distinguished Service Award will be presented to Sheryl Kirkeby, Board Member, Rapid City Board of Education. Dan Cahoy, Entrepreneur and 2012 Business Management and Marketing graduate, has been selected to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award.

Twenty-Seven Graduates, S.D. SkillsUSA Winner Honored During Student Awards Banquet

Western Dakota Tech Outstanding Graduates and a South Dakota SkillsUSA winner were honored during a Student Awards Banquet, in the college's Event Center, Friday, May 4. The awards banquet recognizes exceptional students in a variety of capacities.
 
Twenty-seven students received the Outstanding Graduate Award for their program. Students are chosen for this award by instructors in their program area based on criteria including academic achievement and organizational, communication and leadership skills.

Welding Student Earns First Place in SkillsUSA S.D. Competition

Western Dakota Tech first-year Welding and Fabrication student Jerhett Cattin, 19, of Chadron, Neb., received first place in the SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference (SLSC) competition in the Welding category. The SLSC championships, at Southeast Technical Institute in Sioux Falls, SD, took place in April.

If you are a high school junior or senior who would enjoy primarily working outdoors and have an interest in protecting the environment and natural resources, a career in Environmental Engineering might be for you.

To find out more about the career field and Western Dakota Tech’s Environmental Engineering Tech program, register today to attend the FREE Environmental Engineering Tech Camp at wdt.edu/camps. The activity-rich camp will take place at Western Dakota Tech, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., Thursday, May 17. The camp is limited to 12 students, making early registration important; in addition, the goal statement on the registration form might be used to determine acceptance.
