Seven WDTC Graduates Help Fill Great Need for Professional Truck Drivers

Apply Now for Aug. 30 Class A Day Course; Night/Weekend Course Full

Seven students recently graduated from Western Dakota Technical College's (WDTC) Class A Professional Truck Driving Program. These graduates will help fill the high and projected increasing need for truck drivers.

The Class A Professional Driving Program graduates, and their hometowns, are as follows:
  • Robin Bolena – Rapid City
  • Ramona Garreau – Box Elder
  • Jamie Wickersham – Box Elder
  • Randy Lebeda – Black Hawk
  • Turner Scherr – Gillette, Wyo.
  • Jacob Greager – Rapid City
  • Dennis “Rusty” Coy – Hill City
Those interested in the Class A program are encouraged to apply now for the day course starting Aug. 30, as the program fills quickly and enrollment is limited. The Night/Weekend Course is already full.

In a South Dakota Department of Labor August 2022 Top 30 Hot Careers report, the top "Hot Career" listed is "Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers". The list is based on factors including "projected annual openings greater than the average across all occupations for 2020-2030" and "an average/mean wage greater than the median wage across all occupations in 2022". The S.D. DOL projects annual openings for Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers, from 2020-2030, to be 945. The average annual wage in 2021 was $47,642.
